NAMM Foundation names Poland among Best Communities for Music Education
April 26, 2016
POLAND – Poland Central School District was recently recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation as among the Best Communities for Music Education in the United States for 2016.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who work together to ensure access to music learning for all students as part of the school curriculum, according to the nonprofit NAMM Foundation.
This is the first time Poland has received the designation. Music teachers Kristen Bowman and Paul Brown were instrumental in the district getting the award.
This year, Poland was one of 476 school districts recognized with the honor out of the nation’s 13,515 school districts – meaning Poland was one of only 3.5 percent of school districts in the country to receive the designation.
The Best Communities for Music Education program evaluates schools and districts based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, community support, participation and access to music instruction. The NAMM Foundation, with the assistance of researchers at The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas, evaluates participants on these factors. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.
