Sixth Grade Social Studies - Curriculum and Expectations
Goal: To help students have a better understanding of world geography and how our world today was shaped by ancient history of the Eastern Hemisphere including the development of cultures, civilizations, and empires.
Materials: Textbook (Scott Foresman, “The World”), Chromebook, folder, and colored pencils/highlighter (as needed).
Areas of Study: Fertile crescent; Ancient China; Ancient Egypt; Ancient Greece; Ancient Rome; Middle Ages; Renaissance; Our World Today
Methods: Students will be using the following practices to help better grasp content:
- Gathering, interpreting data, and using evidence
- Chronological, geographic and economic reasoning
- Comparing and contrasting
- Civic participation
Grading: The following percentages will be used to calculate a student’s average each marking period:

Homework Guidelines: Students will receive homework on the days they have SS. They should record their assignments during class but can also check the 6th Grade Homewok Board found under the "Studet/Partent" tab on the PCS homepage. If homework assignments are incomplete, the student may lose classwork points for that day and will be expected to complet the assignment during recess or study hall.

Student Absences: If a student is absent they should check Google Classroom and the Homework Board. Every effort will be made to have work on Google Classroom by the end of the day. Otherwise students are responsible for getting their assignments the day they return to school and work will be due on the following school day.In the case of an extended medical absence (more than 3 days), confirmed by Ms. Divine, Social Studies material and assignments will be available online at our SS Google Classroom.
