Meal Prices for the 2017-2018 School Year are

    Breakfast $1.25, Lunch $2.50.

The Healthy, Hungry-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires all school districts to gradually increase lunch prices, unless they are currently charging $3.04 (Federal Reimbursement rate for free meals) or more for a student meal.

Students must choose at least 3 components to be a reimbursable meal--

one of which must be a fruit or vegetable.

If it is not a complete meal, we have to charge à la carte prices.

Free and Reduced prices are for complete reimbursable meals only!

Students are  REQUIRED to take either a fruit or a vegetable daily.

Please discuss with your child the choices they have before they come to school.

We understand that fruits and vegetables may not always be child’s favorite food choice, but it is important for your child’s health to eat a rainbow of colors everyday.

We believe that healthy eating habits learned early in life will lead to a

    fit and healthy lifestyle.

The New Meal Pattern is based on 5 Components:

    (F) Fruit, (V) Vegetable, (G) Grains, (M/MA) Meat-Meat Alternate, (M) Milk

Students MUST choose a fruit or vegetable and at least 2 other components

(total of 3) for a complete Reimbursable Meal.

Students may choose 1 of each component (total of 5) for the same price.

There will be signs in the serving lines (“Choose My Plate”) that will identify the component choice offered each day. Students may select 1 choice from each component.

    FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS

Because the price has increased, we can’t stress enough the value in Free/Reduced meals. This is an option more families in our district are eligible for than actually apply.  Please consider it. Price for reduced breakfast and lunches are $.25 each for eligible families.  The Free and Reduced Meals may help ease a burden for your family. Free and Reduced Meal Applications were mailed to families and are on the polandcs.org website. Please check the income chart on the application.  If your income is below the amount listed for your family size, please fill out an application and return it to any office at Poland Central School including the Food Service Department. If you have any questions please call Tom Pfisterer, Food Service Director @ 738-0848. New applications must be filed every year before October 16. If your family was eligible for free or reduced meals last year their eligibility will remain the same until a new application is approved (before October 16).

Fill out one application per household.

Make sure to include all family members, an adult signature, address and phone number. If a new application is not filed by October 16, as of October 17 your children will have to pay $2.50 for lunch and $1.25 for breakfast. If you submit an application after October 16 and it is approved the approval is NOT retroactive to October 16. If your child has charged meals between October 17 and the date approved you are responsible for these charges and they must be paid according to the charge policy for Poland Central School.

    Low Balance Notification

Notices are sent home with elementary children when they have 2 days remaining on their account to provide you with time to send in pre-payments. These notes are sent to your child’s classroom each day for them to bring home. Parents can always contact the Food Service Department to request a current account balance. Middle School and High School students are told each day when their account balances are getting low.

    Charging Policy

The Board of Education recognizes that on occasion, students may forget to bring meal money to school. To ensure that students do not go hungry, but also to promote responsible student behavior and minimize the fiscal burden to the school district, the Board will allow students who may forget meal money to “charge” the cost of meals to be paid back at a later date subject to terms in the Meal Charge Policy.

(Complete policy is available by request in the District Office)

Only regular meals may be charged, meaning what’s on the menu, excluding extras and snacks.

Grades K – 5 Students may have up to (3) charges at a time. These charges must be paid within 2 weeks.

Students that are negligent in paying charges may be denied charging privileges.

If you are sending in money for student charges, you must send the charge money ($2.50 per lunch, $1.25 per breakfast) in addition to the pre-payment money to get the discounted price.
