Notes for Budget Draft 1       VIEW Budget Draft  1

The first draft represents a rough un-audited budget to allow a general look at our current budget position. Draft 1 includes several estimates that will be fine-tuned in the coming weeks and presented at the next Board of Education Meeting scheduled on March 19, 2026 at 6 pm in the HS Library.

Draft 1 reflects the funding necessary to maintain all existing programs and update resources and equipment related to our existing program. The proposed budget change is 1.10%, and the proposed tax increase is 2.00%. The calculated tax levy limit is to be determined.

Draft 1 appropriates $1,550,766 in fund balance. A closer look at fund balance position will occur at the March 19, 2026 meeting.

Draft 1 uses the Governor's proposal for State Aid that was released January 20, 2026. Final State Aid figures should be available near the end of March, prior to the final adoption of the proposed budget.

Draft 1 represents our fourth year of payment for the BOCES Capital Project. The District's third year payment for the BOCES Project was $524,343 with estimated aid of $249,587 for a net impact of $274,756. The District's fourth year payment for the BOCES Project will be $632,193 with estimated aid of $293,337 for a net impact of $338,855.

26-27 Board of Education Vacancy

ONE (1) Board of Education seat will be filled this year at the Annual Vote that is scheduled for May 19, 2026. The vacancy is a term of five (5) years and is the result of the expiration of the following term of office:  the seat presently held by Michele Szarek.

Petitions will be available from the District Office on March 2, 2026 for the purpose of obtaining at least 25 signatures of qualified voters in the District. Petitions must be returned to the District Office at 74 Cold Brook St no later than 5:00 PM on , Monday, April 20, 2026 - which is 30 days before the Annual Vote.

Interested persons may wish to attend a Zoom Meeting  "How to become a School Board of Education Candidate and What You Need to Know" on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 6 pm. The two-hour program is sponsored by the regional School Boards Institute. Candidate resources developed in 2022 and 2024 are available HERE.
