Poland students excel at Regional Science Fair

UTICA – Poland Central School District students won the most awards of any school to participate in the recent Utica College Regional Science Fair.
All six Poland students who participated in the Regional Science Fair won awards. Poland students won two of the three Grand Championship level awards and took home more category and special awards than any other school.
In total, 76 students from nine school districts participated in the 41st annual Regional Science Fair on Saturday, March 23, at Utica College.
Poland students qualified for the Regional Science Fair from success during the Poland Central School Science Fair on Thursday, March 7, when 60 awards and $3,025 in prizes were handed out.
At the Regional Science Fair, Poland students won the following awards:
Mason Salvatore:
- Junior Level Grand Champion ($500 Scholarship to Utica College for one year and a trophy)
- Junior Level – Natural Science First Place ($75)
- Maijka Social Science Award
Sara Borner:
- Senior Level Runner-Up Grand Champion (half tuition scholarship to Utica College for one year and a trophy)
- Senior Level – Math/Computer/Engineering First Place ($75)
- Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Award ($100)
- ASM Materials Education Foundation Award
- Association for Women Geoscientists
- Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award
- NOAA Pulse of the Planet Award
Seth Walther:
- Junior Level – Natural Science Fourth Place
- Doc Aaronson BioChem Award
Ryann Dunn:
- Senior Level – Natural Science Second Place ($50)
- American Psychological Association Award
Ella Schmid:
- Senior Level – Math/Computer/Engineering Second Place ($50)
- Norman P. Bernstein Electronics Award
Nathan Draper:
- Senior Level – Math/Computer/Engineering Third Place ($25)
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Award
- Ricoh Corporation Award
- The Dr. Nelson Ying Scholar Competition ($500)
