Poland Central School District congratulates first-grade teacher Pam Finn, school psychologist Jennifer Herkel, physical education teacher Sandy Hitt, special education teacher Sally Leahy and first-grade teacher Karen Livingston on their retirements!

Retiring bus drivers Karen Smith and Michael Miller were featured in a separate story which you can read by clicking here – congratulations to them as well!

Finn, Herkel, Hitt, Leahy and Livingston were asked some questions to help recognize their retirements, and their responses are being featured in stories released one per day this week. Today, we are featuring retiree Karen Livingston!

Karen Livingston

Length of time at Poland: 28.5 years.

Position: First-grade teacher for 28.5 years.

Other roles at Poland CSD: Coordinator and captain of Poland Has Heart fundraiser, new teacher mentor, district-wide mentor coordinator, member of various committees on curriculum development, program advancement and textbook adoption.

A memory you want to share of your time at Poland: The generosity of the PCS school community to raise money for the American Heart Association in honor of Alyssa Pomichter through spirit days and other activities. Poland CSD won an award for the most money raised by a school team every year except one from 2006 to 2018. Plaques recognizing this achievement are on display in one of the school lobbies.

Reflecting on retiring from Poland: PCS will hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to spending more time with my family, relaxing at camp and traveling.
