Poland voters approve 2023-24 budget

 

On May 16, Poland Central School District voters approved the district’s $17,531,793 budget for the 2023-24 school year.

 

The budget proposition passed with 64.2% voter approval; 115 yes votes and 64 no votes.

 

Compared to the 2022-23 school year, the proposal carries a tax levy increase of 2.00%, which is under the calculated tax levy limit of 8.09%, and calls for a spending increase of 7.00%.

Board of education election

 

One candidate, Danielle Allen, sought election to the board of education while there were two open seats. Allen received 131 votes. 

 

The seats are for five-year terms from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2028. When only one person submits a nominating petition to be on the Board of Education when there are two open seats, the person who receives the most write-in votes would fill the second seat. Shauna Douglass received the most write-in votes with 46.
