The Poland Board of Education appointed two principals at its special meeting on August 3.

John Seifts was appointed to the role of secondary principal where he will lead middle and high school students and staff.

Seifts joined the Poland Central School District in August 2022 as an assistant principal. During his time at Poland, he has been involved in many school district activities.

“I am grateful to the board and our community for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am also humbled as I know many exciting moments, triumphs, and challenges await,” Seifts said of his new role.

Seifts said academically, he plans to continue the growth in math, science and English Language Arts as well as arts and music programs.

“I also want to continue to build positive relationships with the community,” Seifts added.

“With his involvement in district programs from the start, John has proven he cares about our school community,” superintendent Laura Dutton said. “I look forward to working with him in his new role.”

Renee Morrison will serve the role as primary principal in Poland where she will lead the elementary grades.

Morrison has 17 years of experience working in elementary education. She has served as a teacher, reading specialist and teaching assistant in the Holland Patent Central School District and most recently as a teacher in the Remsen Central School District.

While in Remsen, she also served as a reading specialist, district professional development facilitator and literacy coach. She will continue to be the coach of the Holland Patent field hockey team, where her daughter plays.

“I am excited to be part of the Poland school community and help students and staff excel in all aspects of life,” Morrison said. “The team atmosphere is one reason I was drawn to Poland and I look forward to experiencing the Tornado spirit.”

“Renee is a substantive addition to our leadership team and school community. Her background and experience indicate she will work closely with others and strengthen our school programs to help our students and staff excel,” Dutton said.
