Poland boys soccer team captures Section III title
The Poland boys soccer team defeated Hamilton 1-0 on Oct. 30 to win the Section III Class D Championship.
The No. 1-seeded Tornadoes (17-3) and the No.2-seeded Emerald Knights were scoreless until senior Jason Victor netted the game’s only goal on a penalty kick in the second half.
Sophomore goalkeeper Noah Lamphere and the Poland defense made sure Hamilton did not score the rest of the game.
“I am proud of each member of this team. They held strong and did not give up. This is a goal we have been working toward all season and I couldn’t be happier for this team,” head coach Greg Haver said.
Poland has had 13 players score goals this season, according to the website High School Sports Stats.
This is Poland’s first sectional title since 2019 and 11th overall.
The Poland boys soccer team earned the title of co-champions in the state final on Nov. 11 after finishing as runner-up in 1983, 1984, 2005 and 2007.
