Information about Emergency Notifications

Below is Poland Central School District’s process for delaying the start time of school and making closure notifications.

How Is The Decision Made?

Information that goes into the decision to delay or close school includes:

  • Road condition reports from transportation staff, regional highway departments, and other sources (weather/traffic cameras, roadway test drives, etc.)
  • Potential impact of snow, rain, winds, and/or ice across the school day, with specific attention to times when our students are being transported to and from school.
  • Communication with neighboring districts to determine whether impassable roads beyond our boundaries will impede employees in reporting to work.
  • Operational challenges within the building that may result in sustained loss of lighting, plumbing, or heating.

Who Makes The Decision?

The school superintendent is responsible for the final decision, based on the above factors and information received at the time the decision must be made.

How Will Families Be Notified?

Closing, delay, early dismissal, or canceled activity notifications will be posted on ParentSquare, this district website and communicated to WKTV.com for use on their website and live news report.

What Time will the Building be Open & will the Bus Arrive for a School Delay?

A school delay is two hours; when school is delayed, our campus breakfast program is canceled.

Students who walk, are drivers, or have family transport may enter the school building at 9:40 a.m.

Students who take a bus can expect to move the established pick up time ahead 2 hours and unload from buses to the building at 9:45 a.m.
