Poland Central School District students recently joined peers from other area school districts for educational experiences through the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Honors Program, exploring engineering, college life, and future career pathways.
Sixth Graders Explore Engineering
On Sept. 28, three Poland sixth-grade students joined peers from six other school districts at the Herkimer BOCES Gateway Center in Herkimer for Playful Engineers workshops. Led by presenter Merlin Katz, the workshops, Chain Reaction and Artful Mechanisms, gave students hands-on opportunities to build simple machines, explore kinetic art, and collaborate on creative problem-solving.

High School Students Visit SUNY Poly
On Oct. 2, three Poland high school students in grades 9–12 joined students from four other school districts for a tour of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica. Through the Herkimer BOCES Honors Program, students learned about postsecondary education, potential career paths, certificate programs, and campus opportunities.

These experiences are part of the educational opportunities available through the Herkimer BOCES Honors Program, which connects students with specialized learning experiences across a variety of subjects. More opportunities will be available to eligible students throughout the school year, giving them additional chances to explore their interests, develop their skills, and discover new possibilities for the future.
