After months of work, we’re excited to announce that Poland Central School District’s new website is now live. We encourage you to take a look around. You can expect to find more thoughtful and streamlined navigation and content that not only answers questions but ignites your enthusiasm for the incredible work of our students and staff.
Earlier this year, the district set out to redesign its website with the goal of making it a more valuable resource for finding information about the school. A survey was sent out to the school community requesting feedback on the current website, and that information was utilized by the web team at Capital Region BOCES to design Poland’s new website.
Below are some of the key questions and responses that shaped the blueprint for the new design.
What challenges do you have when using the district website?
- I don’t really know how to navigate it.
- I can not access school tools.
- Can’t find certain things.
- It’s hard to find teachers at times and their contact info.
- Not being able to access quickly.
- Finding the code of conduct.
- The different sub categories [Main Navigation] I guess you could call them aren’t easily visible on a mobile device.
Is there anything you’d like to see on the site that isn’t there now?
- The school calendar for the following year as soon as possible. (I would encourage having someone fill in anything whenever they find out.)
- Information about the bus garage, schedules, maintenance, employee routes (transportation).
- Contact info for ALL building staff, even those contracted out. If they have a Poland CSD email I would like to see them on there.
- Transportation issues and solutions (transportation information).
- More information about events on the calendar. More than just an event, I would like details about the event.
- Emails for the school staff.
- Should be able to purchase tickets for events from the site.
- Please include more news about possible clubs that students can get involved in besides sports.
- I understand most parents are tech savvy however there are grandparents who are guardians and aren’t. It isn’t the easiest thing to navigate.
What’s the most useful to you about the district website?
- I like having the calendars available (academic, athletic).
- Board of Education information.
- The separate pages for departments.
- To see updated information about school openings/closings, trip changes & route changes.
- News, menus, early release dates and calendar.
- Calendar and District Information.
- Teachers emails, sports schedules, parent portal, writing absent or late notes.
- The calendar.
- The menu is the most useful to me because I check it daily and inform my kids of what is for breakfast and lunch.
Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback with us! Your honest assessments of the former site were used to ensure that the new website included streamlined navigation, large icons to frequently accessed portals for Class Link, ParentSquare and SchoolTool, as well as Featured Links that included items you said you check most, like daily menus, sports schedules, prominent calendar of events and contact information.
